So the builder contacted me to set up a date and time to come and choose our finishes, and of course both Todd and I were super excited...until the builder would not budge on the date. Todd of course happened to be away for work, and would miss the opportunity to come with me. But Todd is amazing, and he provided me full design authority! :)
So on July 29th I drove down to the design studio in Concord for 1:00 pm, and met directly with the builder to pick out all the finishes.
Todd said that there was not a lot of wiggle room in the budget for upgrades, although the builder did allow for us to place the few upgrades we did choose (of course I had to spring for some things!) and tack them right onto our mortgage.
Here is what our main floor will look like! The kitchen will have the white cupboards that I have been longing for! The tile, although hard to tell, is grey with very light striping, this tile will be in the front entrance, kitchen, mudroom, and laundry room. The stairs and railings are wood and so I choose to upgrade the colour from natural oak to something a little darker to fit our style, and then (although not ideal) is the grey carpet which will be in the living room. What is not pictured is the counter top chip, and from what I recall it is light with black and grey veining. To be honest I am VERY concerned with all the counter top choices, it is very hard to tell from a small chip what the larger piece will look and feel like!
Next is our master bathroom. The cupboards are dark grey, and the tiles are white.
So instead of the hardwood floors, I decided to surprise Todd and bring for this amazing shower for our mater bathroom! We will have a glass shower enclosure, so it will be pretty, and feel amazing. Sorry kids...Mommy will be busy having a shower! ;)
Our hardware is something I am also a little leery of is the hardware in the kitchen. In the master bath, and main bath they both have the second handle, but in the kitchen I went for something a little more bold and choose the 4th black handle...and I am worried that it will make it look dated. But it could be an easy fix down the road should it look dated.
We had almost everything wrapped up when I happened to glance over at the door knobs, and thankfully I asked what the standard was on the knobs and he said bronze...I promptly said that will not work, I need to upgrade the hardware for the doors. So I ended up picking out a really nice pewter!
The builder although unaccommodating, was very nice and offered some good design advice. Now looking back I wish that I had made some different choices, but the house will be beautiful! :)
