Little Lolo - First Grade!

I cannot believe that my little girl has now started grade one! Kindergarten felt like she was still small, but grade one just feels like the big leagues now! She does not have to stay in the gated area with all the kindergartners, she has the freedom of the big field, she has her own desk in the classroom, she had to make sure she had rulers, pencils, markers, pencil crayons, glue, etc all in her own pencil case, and she has an agenda now, not a communication bag!

So we did not know whose class she would be in before the first day, so when we arrived we went to the big pavement play area and found her grade and spoke with the teacher with the clipboard, and we found out that Loralai was not in the grade one class, but in the grade one-two split class with Mrs. Morris. Now I have heard lots of great feedback about Mrs. Morris so I am happy to hear that she will be teaching Loralai this year, and hopefully we have the same positive experience. 

So after the first week is now over, each day Loralai came home she was happy! she seems to like first grade more than kindergarten so far, and I am excited for her! The only glitch is that her best friend in SK did not move onto grade one with her, since she is now only in SK this school year. I can tell that it makes Loralai sad that she is not able to see and play with her friend at school anymore, but I will make sure that they get together for play dates! 

On another note I will be volunteering on the parent council committee again this year which is exciting for me. I like the fact that I get to be directly involved with fundraisers, events, and being to impact the student community in a positive way. Last year I was the chair (and secretary lol) of the council, I am not sure what role I will be given this year, likely the secretary which is fine by me! As the chair I was able to give a speech at the grade 8 graduation, which was special for me since Brandon was graduating!

So here is to another great school year!
